The Sharpshooter - Bret Hart's WWF Career

Bret Hart's WWF Career

So in RAW IS WAR ( 31st March 1997) Bret stopped a match between Bulldog and Owen and made them realize how he had always loved and cared about them. Bret, Owen and Bulldog together once again formed The Hart Foundation. At Summerslam 1997 the match was set for the World Wrestling Federation title between the Undertaker and Hitman with Shawn Michaels as the special guest referee and if Bret lost he would never ever wrestle again in the US soil. Bret outsmarted both Shawn and the Undertaker when he irritated Shawn and Shawn slammed a chair in the Undertaker's head which was intended for Bret. Bret was the new WWF Champ and he had won the title for the fifth time.
The relationship between Vince McMahon and Bret Hart got worse as Bret had misbehaved with Vince when he heard that Michaels would be the guest referee in his match against the Undertaker in Summerslam 1997. Now Bret was to face Shawn for the WWF title in the Survivor Series ( 9th November '97 ). Shawn Michaels had a very unusual entry in the ring. The scene was set. The title was on the line. It could have gone either way though Bret was considered as favorite. But this match came out to be the greatest upset of Bret's life as he was defeated by HBK. HBK had Bret in the sharpshoooter and had the bell forcibly rung. Bret never submitted. Matters worsened for Bret. He had once again lost the World title and the owner of the federation had turned against him. Bret decided to leave WWF as he could not deal with it anymore and Vince had also said that the WWF wanted him out. Thus Bret's 14 years of devotion and loyalty was dumped out as he left the WWF. What a sad end to a great career!
