The Sharpshooter - Bret Hart's WCW Career

Bret Hart's WCW Career

Bret and Goldberg eventually met for the US title with Bret having an injured leg. The match witnessed two of the finest wrestlers go one on one. Goldberg tried to make Bret quit by going after his ankle. But Bret did not quit. When referee was down Bret was thrown out of the ring and Sid, Nash and Hall entered the ring and attacked Goldberg. After doing so they left the ring and went away. Limping Bret crawled in the ring and pinned Goldberg to win the US title. In the following episodes of WCW Nitro Bret warned the Outsiders to stay out of his business and stated that he wanted to deliver the title to Bill Goldberg. In the Texas Tornado match for the US title Bret was cheated as the special guest referee Nash hit him with a baseball bat causing Hall to win. In Bret's quest for the vacant WCW World Title in the fist match Bret defeated Saturn easily inspite of Malenko's effort to save his friend. In the next match of the WCW World Title Tournament Bret casually defeated Billy Kidman who was no match for him. As expected The Filthy Animals did come out for help but only after Kidman had already submitted to the Sharpshooter. Bret advanced in the tournament by beating Norman Smiley, Sting in the semis and Benoit in the finals (21st November 1999) to gain his first WCW World Title. December 9, 1999 Bret and Goldberg defeated Creative Control to become Tag Team Champions. Due to the finish of the match the night before at Starrcade Bret unfortunately had to vacate the title. Bret Hart defeated Goldberg on 20 December 1999 to win the vacant WCW World Title and in the process reformed the nWo.
